Spreadsheets with real formulas.

Keeping track of a budget or a list? Type numbers, add formulas, and turn them into charts. Bring in a CSV file, or save as Excel with the formulas still working.

What you see

A grid you already know

Click a cell, type a number or a formula, and the answer updates.

Charts from your cells

Make bar, stacked bar, line, and donut charts from what you typed.

Part of the Workspace

Sheets sits beside Docs, Slides, PDF, Designer, and Meeting Notes.

You stay in control

It tells you the truth about saving.

Your work is saved on your device first. The light only says saved to Google after Google really has the copy.

Step by step

  1. Start a sheet

Open a blank sheet, or bring in a CSV file.

  2. Add formulas

Add up a column, look up a value, or count items that match. If a formula goes in a circle, Sheets marks it.

  3. Make a chart

Turn a group of cells into a chart.

  4. Save it

Download as CSV or Excel. If you connect Google, Sheets can keep a copy in your Google Drive.

Questions

Do formulas still work in Excel?

Yes, as long as the formula uses a function Sheets knows. One it does not know is saved as plain text instead of a broken formula.

Is a CSV file safe to open?

Yes. Cells that start with symbols that could trigger commands are made harmless when you save a CSV.

Can I use it today?

Not yet. The app is built and in testing, and it has not been released.
